Historical Significance
The Benbecula Water Tower is an iconic brutalist era structure on the Isle of Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides. Built in the early 1970s, it was originally constructed to service the RAF station in Balivanich. Although it is no longer in use, the tower has become a significant landmark in the area, largely due to its prominence in the flat landscape of Benbecula. Despite dividing local opinion, the tower was saved from demolition due to local support, highlighting its importance to the community.
